What about the baby?

Babies can have mild breathing problems after birth. This is mostly temporary and in many cases does not need treatment. Sometimes the baby will be given extra oxygen and closely observed in the nursery or newborn intensive care unit (NICU).

Around 3 in 100 babies will have mild breathing problems after planned VBAC compared with 6 in 100 babies after planned Cesarean.
