What is a planned VBAC?
When a woman tries for a vaginal birth after Cesarean it is called a planned VBAC. Your doctor or midwife may call it “trial of labor after cesarean” or TOLAC.
When women try VBAC, the labor and delivery nurse, doctor or midwife pays close attention to mom and baby. In most cases problems can be picked up and acted on quickly to make sure the mom and the baby stay safe.
Many women with no medical risks who try VBAC are able to labor and give birth vaginally. Cesarean birth may still be needed if labor does not go normally or if problems occur. A choice to try VBAC can result in either a vaginal birth or Cesarean birth during labor.
